Derry Girls
Season 1-3 Themed Snacks!

PDF Printout
This is the file I created with all the quotes to pair with the themed food. I printed them out on gloss paper at Office Max, and it cost around $3.00 UDS. If you have a printer at home that prints in color, even better!
I cut out the images and taped them to cardboard so they kept their shape. Then, I taped each cutout to a toothpick to stick in each corresponding food item.
Season 1
Fionnula’s Fish & Chips
Season 1, Episode 2

Timing Note: This is a lot of food at one time, so I started prepping it before starting Episode 1. I chopped the potatoes, set up the fish and batter ingredients, and made the tartar sauce. Once that was all done, I started Episode 1. While episode 1 was playing (I was casually watching from the kitchen because I’ve seen the show a 100 times), I put the pie in the oven and started frying up the chips and fish. I was pretty confident I could get it all done before Episode 2 started, but if you want to play it safe, you can make all the food before starting the show.
This is the Fish and Chip recipe I used. Make sure to use a light Irish beer for the fish batter! I also pair the fish with this Tartar Sauce recipe, but you can also serve the fish with malt vinegar too.

Joe’s Plain Chicken Burger
Season 1, Episode 2
To save time, I purchased McChickens from McDonalds and picked off the toppings to make them plain.
If you would like to make these chicken burgers at home, though, you can take a chicken breast and prepare it the same way you did the fish. Cover it in flour, and then the fish batter, and fry it up. Chicken should have an internal temp of 165 degrees F. When the chicken is completely cooked, place it between two burger buns.

Uncle Colm’s Steak & Kidney Pie
Season 1, Episode 2
For some of the items I served, this one included, I went to a UK supply store and purchased some staples. I got this from their frozen section. I know a lot of people in the UK also buy frozen pies, so I figured this was a good way for me to save time, too.
If you do want it homemade, here is a Steak & Kidney Pie Recipe.

Michelle’s Flaming Shots
Season 1, Episode 2

I was terrified to do these shots, but I did a lot of research, and using a spent lime with a sugar cube as a wick seemed like the safest option, so here’s how I pulled it off.
- Using a spent lime half, place it on top of your drink glass. The drinks I served were Jameson and Coca-Cola. Place a sugar cube in the spent lime.

2. Fill the cap of a 151 high proof alcohol and carefully pour it on top of the sugar cube. It must be 151 high proof to create a flame. Be careful not to spill it. Clean up any spills because the flame could travel and become a problem.

3. You need to work fast, so once you soak the sugar cube, it’s time to light it up. Make sure you have something on hand to put out the flame if it gets out of control. I was nervous, so my husband was standing by with a towel to smother the flame. Luckily, it wasn’t needed, and I was probably being dramatic, but better safe than sorry, LMAO! The flame burned for about 5 minutes. Once it was out, I submerged the limes in a bowl of water just to make sure.

Orla’s Chocolate Fountain
Season 1, Episode 4

There are a few places you can buy a chocolate fountain in person. I’ve seen them at Michaels, Walmart, and Target. If you want to purchase online, here is a chocolate fountain on Amazon. And this is the same price I paid for mine. You’ll also need melting chocolate and Dipping sticks. I served big marshmallows with the chocolate fountain, and it was so much fun!
Timing Note: My chocolate fountain needed to run for 15 minutes to warm up, so I suggest you set it up and let it run during Episode 3. To save time, I added oil to the melting chocolate and microwaved it per the package’s instructions. Then I poured the melted chocolate into the bottom of the fountain as it was running.

Season 2
Michelle’s Funny Scones
Season 2, Episode 4

This is the Irish Scones Recipe I used. I served them with butter and jam, and they were delicious!
Timing Notes: These scones take about a whole episode to bake, so I started making the batter during Season 2, Episode 2. Then I put them to bake during Season 2, Episode 3. They were out of the oven right in time for Episode 4!

A Wee Bit of Tea
Season 2, Episode 4
I made tea with milk to go with the scones, as they enjoy tea with the scones at the end of the episode. After some research, I determined THE tea to serve is Barry’s Irish tea. It’s a lovely black tea that I am now obsessed with and have been enjoying every morning since our Derry Girls Marathon. I purchased this tea as a UK supply shop in my area but you can also get Barry’s Tea on Amazon.

Season 3
Trolley Snacks
Season 3, Episode 3
ROCDEER was kind enough to send me this versatile Couch Caddy that was perfect to hold all the assorted snacks and tea I served for this episode! I’m under no obligation to promote it, but it turned out so perfectly that I want to give them a shout-out. I love that it holds everything securely so I can use it in bed, on the couch, on my patio, or even on a picnic. Here’s the link!

For the trolley snacks, I chose some staples from the UK that are enjoyed in Ireland and are significant to the show.
- First off, Taytos crisps! In the TV show, the missing crisps are actually salt and vinigar but the UK supply store I went to didn’t have them, so the next best thing was the cheese and onion. They were delicious, btw!

This was me looking for the salt and vinegar LOL!

2. I also wanted to buy an old-school candy, and the UK supply store had Dip Dabs, which I’m pretty sure Jenny and Erin mentioned in Season 1, Episode 4.

3. The show also shows biscuits (cookies) throughout, so I went with Bolands brand lemon puffs. The store didn’t have Kimberleys, which is what I really wanted, but at least I was able to secure the Irish biscuit brand Bolands.

4. Of course, I had to serve KitKats! The train scene kicks off with the girls fighting with the trolley worker because he won’t sell them his KitKats. After all, they are “Display KitKats”. LOL!

5. Lastly, I had to serve more tea! The Irish love their tea! Barry’s Irish Tea.

Sister Michael’s Second Act
Season 3, Episode 7
To end our Derry Girls Marathon, I poured us some Jameson Irish Whiskey to cheers with Father Peter and Sister Michael.

Fun fact: Sister Michael is my FAVORITE Derry Girls character. I really wish her scenes had more food involved, but at least I got to include her here.
