Scream

Themed Movie Night

Difficulty Level: Easy

Please Note: This is not my usual Culinary Movie Night, where I plan themed dishes and bring them out during the scenes they correlate to. This is a modified version where I decorate a snack tray and fill it with themed snacks. It’s a much easier, more manageable movie night than the usual, so give it a try if you want something low stress!

Decoration Links

Here is a list (with links) of all the equipment and decorations I used for my Scream Themed Movie Night. I would be incredibly grateful if you used my links. I will make a little commission, and that would really help with the cost of the website and related expenses. You can find my full Amazon List here!

Recipes

Blood Splatter Strawberries Recipe

First, start by making the chocolate-covered strawberries- Add 1/2 a cup of white chocolate chips and a tablespoon of coconut oil or avocado oil to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir well, and microwave for another 15 seconds. Keep stirring well in between microwaving in 15-second increments. It’s important not to overheat and burn.

When your chocolate is completely melted, dip each washed and dried strawberry in the chocolate and place on a parchment paper-covered plate. Refrigorate for about 10 minutes.

While the strawberries are in the refrigerator, make your fake blood. In the movie Scream, they reference using corn syrup as fake blood, so that’s what we’re doing.

Add 1/4 cup of corn syrup to a small bowl. Add 1 drop of blue food coloring and 12 drops of red food coloring. Stir and then slowly add 1/2 a tablespoon of cornstarch to thicken. Mix well so there are no clumps.

Once your strawberries are cooled, dip your fingers in the fake blood and splatter the blood on the strawberries. This got messy, so do it over the sink and be prepared to wipe off the counter and walls after. LOL! These can be stored in the refrigerator until you’re ready to eat.

Popcorn

You can, of course, make your life easier by buying popcorn from the store. But, if you want to make kettle corn on the stove, kind of like in the movie, here is my go-to recipe! Also, to match the popcorn in the movie, I served it in aluminum foil.

Instructions:

1. Pour enough ghee into your pot to coat the bottom. You need enough oil to LIGHTLY cover the entire bottom.

2. Add only three popcorn kernels, put the pot lid on and turn your burner on to high heat (I place the heat to 8 out of 10 on my burner).

3. Wait for the three kernels to pop. This takes a minute or two. This lets you know the oil is ready.

4. Next, add your kernels, salt and optional brown sugar. The amount you add will depend on the size of the pot you use. I recommend adding enough to cover half of the bottom of your pot. You can control the amount of salt you want. I usually do a generous three-finger pinch. If you’re adding sugar, I recommend brown sugar and letting it sit in the freezer a few minutes before. I find brown sugar burns slower, and freezing it slows down the burning process even more.

5. Place the lid back on the pot and shake the pot every few seconds. It only takes a few minutes for your popcorn to finish popping so you need to babysit it. I find shaking it every 5 seconds or so keeps the popcorn from burning and makes sure the majority of the kernels pop.

IMPORTANT – Make sure when you shake the pot, the lid is secure, and if any oil leaks through the lid, wipe it before placing the pot back on the burner. 🔥🧯

Ghostface Calzones

These calzones were very easy to throw together! For the breading, I used pie crust instead of pizza dough because pie crust holds its shape much better. Pizza dough tends to expand when cooked, which might ruin the ghostface shape.

Step 1: Cut the shapes by cutting one, then using it to cut the others so they are all even. Then cut out the face of half the dough.

Step 2: Fill the bottom piece of the dough with pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella, and any other topping you want. I used salami.

Step 3: Add the top face and pinch the edges so the calzones are sealed. Then rub an egg wash on top. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees F for about 15-20 minutes.

Halloween Candy

You can’t have a Summerween Spooky Movie Night without Halloween candy! I used these cute little Halloween baskets and filled them with mini Snickers, mini Milky Way, and mini Reese’s cups.

Sangria Screamer

I Love these Tumblers! I wanted something on theme and with a lid since we were doing the movie night from our bed so these were perfect!

I made a pitcher of this Sangria so we could easily refill. Here is how to make it!

Add a whole 750ML bottle of red wine to a pitcher. Then add 1/2 a cup of elderflower liqueur and 1/4 cup of vodka. Mix well and store in the refrigerator. When you’re ready to serve, fill your tumblers with ice and pour your sangria to just full.
